Salida Ranger District Draft MVUM Posted

Post by MJM »

A draft of the Salida RD MVUM was posted late last week or early this week. It is at http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/recreation/mvum. It looks to me there are several road closures since the last San Isabel NF paper map was published. I noticed changes to FDR 346 and 214E. There may be others.

After doing this here, I would add that those familiar with the area need to review the maps VERY carefully. We found some well known and well used trails (21 Rd for example) weren't on the maps at all. If someone hadn't noticed that and corrected it, it could well have led to the closing of that trail, like what happened with Coyote in Moab.

THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF FOR US AS WHEELERS!

Iron Chest is not on the map, is it privately owned?
FDR 183 along Longs Gulch has been cut out.
FDR 180 now shows the road is not available between the gates...some sort of private environmental project if I recall correctly.
The spur off of Pomeroy Lakes, leading to the mine is not shown.

I focused on Chaffee county and overlayed all the roads I know of over the MVUM, but there may be a few roads I am not aware of.

The maps should be color coded to show whether it's private property or government owned. It doesn't matter which it is though, it should still be on the maps.

The only ones I know about are on the map. I am hoping the local guys really spend some time looking.

Yeah, thanks for the link.
It must have just come out as I have been checking regularly and the site kept saying "expected February 2009".
I did my part and wrote a small novel with plenty of questions regarding access and roads not listed/marked.
