FZJ80 - Needs a little love

Post by The Man With The Plan »

Son #2 turned 16, so we found a '97 FZJ80 for him. ~165000 miles, good carfax, mechanically ok, exterior is mostly good, interior is decent, but the seats are shot. Who has experience with these? What are some good places to research for parts, maintenance, mods, and common problems? I know about Ih8mud already. Any others?

There are at least 2 seat places that replicate the factory covers, plus the aftermarket drape-over covers.

As much as I love me some 80s, Mud is the only bookmark you need.

Here we are a year later, and I think the motor just blew. Not sure it's worthwhile to put another straight 6 in there, but maybe a LS. I remember reading about a place in town that can do it pretty cheap, but of course, when I need to find them, I can't. Anyone know?

Many shops have stopped doing engine swaps do to the hassle and cost with new emissions rules.

Slee doesn't do engine work. Found a shop that can get it in next week.

Probably just fix the engine, depending on the secondary damage.

Motor is toast. Can't find a shop who rebuilds them. Anyone have one, or know where I can buy one?

Don't know. That was the address he gave back in May, on 'Mud.
