RIP Hurc

Post by Steve »

Sunday, June 7, will mark the 9th anniversary of the death of Lt. John Shaw Vaughan, aka Hurc here, in combat in Afghanistan. I will always miss you buddy. :usa:

I met him at a Jeepster rally in Frisco 15 years ago. I was parked right next to him so got to visit a bit when he managed to stay in one place. I cannot believe it has been this long as it seems like only yesterday. I enjoy seeing his Jeepster pictures pop up on this site from time to time, it is like he is saying that he is still here among us. RIP Hurc!

We never did cross paths on the trails. I wish I could have met him, it sounds like he was a great soul!

RIP!

He was a great guy. My dumbass ex son-in-law bought his Tacoma and then rolled it one morning racing back from his girlfriends house.

Yes, it's that time of year again. I don't spend much time here since we don't currently own a 4x4, but every year at this time I pause to remember John Shaw Vaughan, aka Hurc, who gave his life for our country. He was a close friend and a great guy, and I still miss him often.

You know what's a bit strange is that he would be younger than our kids were he still alive, but we became incredibly close friends in the relatively brief time we knew each other. His death was very hard on me and I will always pause on this, the anniversary of his death, to remember him and his ultimate sacrifice.

Since it’s Memorial Day, and almost 16 years since we lost him, I figured I’d bring this back to the top. Every year at this time I observe a moment of silence, say a prayer, and sometimes still shed a few tears for a great friend who left us way too soon.

I didn't know him well, but for some reason I had a dream about him last night and he was in my thoughts throughout the day. Thanks
