Cryptocurrency ... anyone dabble in it?

Post by 1BGDOG »

So Bitcoin is ripping white hot right now...
I got into it last time at its peak, when it was around 19K.... then it fell out.
So I lost my shorts on it at the time, but never got out and kept dollar cost averaging... when it was down around 3,000.
That has payed off well.
Now to me putting anything over $100 into a crypto is "big money" to me LOL
But since we do not eat out as much, I take a little bit of that "fun money" and play in crypto or Robinhood.
Anyone else goof around with this?
( I leave the real investing to my financial advisor(s)!)

My son and his college roommates buy and sell it. One of them timed it perfectly and cashed out a little over $1M, he promptly put it into something else for his retirement.

I am sure he blew some but I didn't hear on what.

My son hangs with some guys that are pretty wise for their years, a couple of them are finance majors which helps. I am not saying they don't also do some typical stupid young guy stuff but overall they impress me.

So last week it was ABOUT to break 20K (Bitcoin) and then it dropped.
I bought on the dip (16ISH or so) and it is back to almost breaking 20K.
We will see...

Ahem it's spelled Pagani GAH!
So near my in laws in CT is a Pagani dealership.
One time my young daughter wanted to see the one up close. Her big brother saw before he went to sleep away camp, so she had to!
I told her we would leave our Dunkin Donut drinks and water outside and MUST stay far from the cars in the show room, she was down
The receptionist saw us put our drinks down, opened the door for us and handed us waters when we walked in (it was summer and hot/humid)
A salesman came out and asked if I was interested in a Pagani.
I replied 'I have amazing credit, but the payments were a bit too much for me."
He handed my daughter a Hot Wheels Pagani.
That was cool.

That sucks!
I use 2 platforms to buy
CoinBase
Binance US
I like the second one BUT I was a CoinBase Wallet when I start moving stuff.

I am not playing big at all. I am still under 15K and feel OK losing on this "funny money".
I do not gamble in Vegas, and get shook by guys I know losing $1000 at craps and not blink. LOL

And it (BTC) has broke 34K today.... white hot with many institutional investors getting into it too.
A lot of the alt coins are also fire now. I recently found one called ADA, bought at 15 cents now at 27 cents.... so again not a big investment from me.
But cool seeing it out perform many of my "traditional" investments.

$31.5 as I type. I have done some research and I am unsure if I want in. I am buying commodities for sure, not sure if crypto is for me. Also, I think there may be a larger pullback for a spot to buy, but who knows.

Thank you Elon! Lol!

I should have gotten into GME, I could of bought at $65 but I didn't think it would do what it did. Over $500 makes no sense!

Someone said TSNP is next. Dunno.

EDIT: The more I think about it, I bet any of the calls for the next GME is a fake run up. But, who knows.

My ADA is still doing pretty solid. As are all my cryptos honestly. DOGE was a wild trip for a few day. Too volatile. Even for me,
At some point I need to drop some 000's on my "investments"

$0.92 today, hit $1.93 and has been tracing down. I was in another position that did 250% in a week, I'll take that.

I was going to take a small position in Bitcoin if it 25k, Elon stopped it before it got there. I did open my wallet and earned a few alt coins, nothing to retire on, but they are fun to have.

So that GME run was nuts.
I tried to buy after hours and Robinhood "locked" me out.
I got one share but... it was a hot mess. I sold and made a little then bought another and lost.
And then I got into the cannabis stocks BEFORE WSB found it and then that went all over the place.
That has settled down.
And lastly a month ago BTC was 37K... now it is 55K.
So nuts.
I read that Elon has made MORE off BTC than Tesla

Here is an interesting video that discusses companies buying into crypto. A bit long but technical and I thought it was very interesting.

44 minutes!??!
Buckle up.
I will watch for sure.
Just had a convo with my son.
We talked about the "value" of a dollar being "backed" by nothing.
But the "value" of a crypto is whatever people pay for it.... with dollars that have no value.

Watched it and it was pretty solid.
I did question a few things like even though a company may invest in crypto (and help their bottom line) they still (in theory LOL) NEED to make something for the long run...
ADA is at 1.20 as we speak :)

I just found his channel recently and I have watched several of his videos. I like his approach, they are long, but I think that is because he loads a lot of info to support his position. Is he right, dunno, but it is well thought out and supported. I did open a coinbase account and did the free coin.

One of the most "popular" (today) is a coin that will be made infinitely.... so NO "market cap" and folks are still "investing" in it..

BTC took a "dip" to low 50's from a high of 64K per coin, and I bought the dip and already seeing "gainz"
